Pascale Bradbury, Joint Owner of SAS Vins de Gascogne, trading in the UK as Gascony Wines
Gascony Wines, the UK trading name of SAS Vins de Gascogne, brings the best true craft wines from South West France direct to UK buyers.
Craft wines are made by “small-scale, independent producers who put their heart and soul into how their wines are grown and made, all of them being essentially determined by local conditions and a single ingredient, home-grown grapes. I know of no craft brewer or distiller who grows all their own ingredients” – Jancis Robinson.
Don’t be fooled into drinking mass-produced wine with faux rustic packaging. We are dedicated to finding genuine local wines of extraordinary quality at affordable country prices.
The majority of our wines are organic or natural as we seek to retain freshness and vitality of flavour. Above all we are driven by taste. We will only feature those organic or natural wines which are consistently delicious. Life is too short for thin, acidic wines.
Our focus is upon independent wine making in the South West of France. We find growers with a passion for quality and a love for their terroir. The tiny volumes they produce mean that their wines never reach supermarket shelves. They are sold at local markets, through family restaurants and by word of mouth. Now we enable you to buy direct from France, at vineyard prices.
We concentrate on finding those wines which have the best balance of price and quality. We avoid the well-researched markets for fashionable expensive wines, and we stay away from the cheap and cheerful. We explore the country lanes of SW France to find the hidden vineyards with exceptional quality at affordable prices and with interesting and flavourful grape selection.
When we taste, we favour wines which are energetic and vibrant in the mouth. We look for purity and freshness of fruit. We reject wines which try to dominate the palate, or which are just flat and dull. We look for wines which respect the fruit, which are friendly and authentic.
SW France has a range of micro-climates and soils. The Atlantic brings softness and blustery bouts of rain to offset the baking heat of summer. The Pyrenees shape the slopes which both shelter and challenge the vines. Within a single vineyard, soils change from limestone to clay to pebbles, allowing so many grape varieties to grow together, providing opportunities for flavours to be blended.
This is a region where ancient grapes – negrette, tannat, fer servadou, gros et petit manseng, petit courbu – are still widely used, sometimes blended with each other and sometimes with more conventional grapes – merlot, sauvignon, chardonnay. Each vineyard responds to its individual terroir. Every tasting brings surprises.
We seek out the most interesting wines, most of which are only sold within the region, to create our own wine list. You can mix and match your selection from different producers, and place your order through our website.
If you have any questions or comments, we would be delighted to hear from you through our Contact page.
Enjoy with us, the best of Gascony Wines.
